A tub of stretchy compound can be enough for a short play session. Clear a space, choose one simple idea and leave room for a child to change the game.

Play-Doh Super Stretch Slime, 85 g is made for pulling, stretching and squishing. The tub pictured in Fresh's listing is labelled 3 oz (85 g) and ages 4+. Here are three hands-on ideas to try with an adult supervising.

Set up a small play space

Use a clean, washable play tray on a stable table. Move food, drinks, paper and electronics out of the way, and keep the compound away from hair, rugs and fabric. Start with clean, dry hands and keep the tub and lid nearby.

Read the warnings on your own pack before opening it. Keep the compound out of mouths and away from younger children, and wash hands after play. Use it as supplied rather than adding household ingredients.

1. Stretch, fold and start again

Hold the compound over the tray and slowly draw your hands apart. Begin with a short stretch, then bring the ends together and fold it back into a smaller shape.

Try a second pull and watch how the shape changes. Keep the stretching above the tray rather than pulling it across the room. There is no target length to reach.

2. Make a tabletop spiral

Gently stretch a short, thick strand and lay it on the tray. Curl it into a loose spiral, then gather it up and try a wave or a letter.

Let the shape change as you work. A quick pattern gives you something new to make without needing cutters, beads or extra craft supplies.

3. Take turns choosing a move

Pick a short sequence, such as stretch, fold, squish. An adult can demonstrate it first, then let the child choose the next sequence.

Keep the instructions simple and take turns with the tub. If you have more than one colour, work with each separately so everyone can keep track of their own compound.

Finish with the tub ready for next time

Gather the compound back into its container and close the lid when the session ends. Follow the pack's storage and cleaning directions, wipe the play area and wash hands.
